Welcome to Purley on Thames Tennis Club
Happy New Year 2021:
And roll on the various vaccines and a return to more normal court time.
It's been a bit of a pest trying to keep up with the coronavirus restrictions since the government started introducing them, and confirming what they meant for tennis in general, then our club in particular, then keeping this up to date. If you are a regular club player get yourself onto our Whatsapp group for regular communications.
Coronavirus arrangements:
The new strain of Covid 19 is even more virulent than the one that ruined 2020, and it's killing increasing numbers of us, let us not forget. So while we eagerly await the vaccinations that will finally restore some normality to life, our strict protocols remain in place to help all players remain alive and well. Since we are all now in Tier 4 we can only play singles and strict social distancing (at least 1 metre) must be preserved whilst on and off court (unless you are playing with members of your own household or support bubble). Particular care should be taken at the gate, which must be kept clear. All players need to wash their hands with soap or use an alcohol gel before entering the courts, and when departing. Courts outside club sessions (see below) must be booked before use - contact the club chairman Colin who is kindly maintaining a booking system for us, please text your requests to him on 07917 453187.
We are a small friendly club with three newly resurfaced courts looking northwards over the Thames Valley in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The club is affiliated to the LTA and as a result all activities run as club activities eg the regular club sessions see below are covered by the public liability insurance of the LTA.
One court is available for public use outside of all club sessions and matches - this is subject to payment of £5 per hour per court. All members wear coloured shoe tags, so anyone not wearing our shoe tags must pay for using the courts.
Matches are played throughout the year, in the Berkshire and Newbury leagues. We have Mens, Ladies and Mixed teams, and a significant proportion of the membership get involved in matches at one level or another. Age is no barrier, that's for sure.
